ABOUT B.U.N.
Established in 2018, Birmingham United Neighborhoods (BUN) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of 8 Birmingham neighborhoods working together to improve neighborhood health through collaborative partnerships and projects. The 8 neighborhoods are Belview Heights, Druid Hills, Fountain Heights, Riley-Travellick, Rising-West Princeton, South Titusville, North Titusville, and West Goldwire.
Mission
In September 2018, the representatives of the 8 neighborhoods decided to establish themselves as Birmingham United Neighborhoods, with a mission to improve neighborhood health through collaborative partnerships and projects. Rather than work separately on neighborhood issues, BUN decided to work collectively as a demonstration project to improve neighborhoods across the city. During a January 2019 strategic planning session led by Clarus Consulting, BUN identified environmental blight as its highest priority.
Programs

Magic City Blight Busters is a program developed by Birmingham United Neighborhoods (BUN) to inspire and motivate residents to get more involved in reducing neighborhood blight and trash. It is a fun way to engage residents to restore the historic beauty of Birmingham’s urban neighborhoods.

The Magic City ToolBank in partnership with Toolbank USA will service neighborhood associations by renting equipment to neighborhood volunteers and provide information on the proper use of the tools and equipment for the community.

The Magic City Blight Busters Toolkit will provide best practices, templates, a list of materials, budget information, and access to the Blight Mobile for use in other neighborhoods.

The Alabama Vaccine Confidence Network seeks to understand and attempt to address barriers to getting vaccinated.

CHEER (Community Health through Engagement and Environmental Renewal) builds on observational studies demonstrating that youth risk behaviors are associated with family and neighborhood adversities.
